JOB DESCRIPTION – HIM Specialist II
Title:  HIM Specialist II
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Shift:  Day Shift, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Reports to:  Health Information Management Supervisor
Department:  Health Information Management
Employment Status:  Full Time

Summary: Meets the needs of the patients and support the ENA physicians’ and advanced
practitioners by performing assigned duties as efficiently as possible through good work ethic, teamwork, positive attitude and respect of patients, physicians’ and other employees.

Minimum Qualifications
•High School Diploma or GED
•3 Years of experience in a Medical Record Department or other medical office setting
•Valid driver’s license for reliable transportation to allow individual to provide support to offsite locations as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Knowledge of Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology.
•Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH and other privacy and compliance requirements
•Knowledge of ethics of confidentiality and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
•Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office, DocuSign, EMR’s and electronic fax systems.
•Strong critical thinking skills
•Ability to concentrate on details and deal with constant interruption.
•Proactive individual with the initiative to be a self-starter
•Ability to function well while involved in multiple task assignments.
•Team player
•Effective, professional communication skills both written and orally with physicians, staff and general public
•Maintain a positive and professional attitude in all aspects of work from patient care to interaction with co-workers and physicians.
•Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
•Attends and completes in-service training as required.

Physical Demands
•While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be required to stand, walk, talk or hear.
•The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel or crouch and requires full range of body motion, manual and dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
•Keying of data requires repetitive motion.
•This position requires eyesight (corrected or uncorrected) that allows the employee to accurately read job related materials, accurately read and record patient related information, and any other functions that require the employee to accurately see data.
•Low risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens and OPIM
Work Environment
•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. The noise level is usually moderate.
•Must be able to work overtime hours as needed to accomplish the mission of the organization.
