Job Description

The UAA Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications to their adjunct labor pool. Our department offers courses in the areas of comparative politics, international relations, political philosophy, and American politics. Specific areas of need will vary from semester to semester based upon each semester's schedule. Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.

The Political Science program is divided into four areas: comparative politics, international relations, political philosophy, and American politics.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule.

Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their field, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness.

Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment.

To thrive in this role adjunct faculty need a passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with students and a desire to help guide students in pursuit of their goals. Successful candidates will possess interpersonal skills to engage effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty, administration, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Relevant Master's degree. Exceptions may be made when prospective faculty have equivalent traditional knowledge and experience of Alaska Native issues and cultures - historical and contemporary, or Alaska Native Arts, subject to the approval of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Doctorate or terminal degree in related field for upper division (300 and 400) courses. Any exceptions must be approved by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Experience teaching at the college level is preferred.

Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
